Devotional Jewelry

My start with devotional jewelry was slow and simple. Still to this day I can't deny the profound impact something so seemingly small has had on me mentally and spiritually.

It started as a black lava beaded bracelet with some tiger's eye in the middle, that I used for protection and grounding. It had a golden feather charm that I associated  with mental freedom. That was one of the first witchy crafts I had made and even just holding it in my hands felt freeing.

I quickly but intuitively made a blue and green glass beaded bracelet that has a golden angel in the middle that I've always associated with the Archangel Michael.

I began to wear those pieces daily, leaving them on my altar at night to charge and rid itself of any lingering energies it happened to pick up during the day

This was a transformational and foundational practice for me for two reasons:

  1. It got me used to adorning myself with jewelry even when I didn’t feel like it or wasn’t going anywhere special, which helped me tap into my feminine energy.
  2. Wearing and charging those pieces helped me notice energy shifts within my field that let me know what devotional jewelry item or ritual I needed.

The last one is what I am going to focus on for this blog post. Being able to wake up and get an energetic feel for the day, without leaving my home and knowing what types of protections and support to bring with me has been life changing.

I know when I wake up feeling sad, I need to wear my Great Grandmas ring.

I know that if i'm going to be speaking my truth and need some helping doing so, to wear my Lilith sigil necklace.

I know that when I'm needing a general sense of guidance and protection, to wear my Ankh necklace and that blue & green Angel bracelet i've mentioned earlier.

My all time favorite devotional piece is a jade necklace with a gold dragon on the front side.
I bought it because of the folklore about a koi fishing swimming upstream and turning into a mighty dragon. As an insecure pisces at the time, that story and imagery deeply resonated with me.

I later started wearing it every day as a reminder to myself that my journey was far from over and I always had the potential to grow into something bigger than what I currently was.

Doing those things helped me to overcome deep insecurities because I was using symbols and archetypes to triumph any limiting and negative beliefs I held about myself.

Adding those charms and jewelry pieces to my self love and releasing rituals continuously for 3 years helped me to overcome a lot of fear that was keeping me from seeing myself for who I actually was. It did not take 3 years for me to fully notice a difference, I felt it in the very beginning. Which is why I kept up with the practice of charming and charging all of my jewelry items and why I'm recommending the same for you!

To get started, know that you do not have to go out and buy any crystals, charms or anything expensive. I started out with the materials I had. My jewelry came about because I was trying to make an adapted version of The Witches Ladder, adding certain charms at the knots instead of leaving it plain. Once I was finished, I thought it would make a rather cute charm bracelet and immediately began crafting things to bring that vision to life.

You can use any and everything to make your own devotional piece, as long as it has meaning and triggers a psychological event that keeps you from repeating the same mistakes.

I recommend you take a second to think about signs and symbols that strike divine inspiration within you. A lot of people resonate with animals, angel numbers or something strikingly witchy! Take a look around your home and the clothing you wear to see if you find any repeating symbols or colors.

If you'd like to break a habit or usher in a personal metamorphosis, I'd recommend snakes, butterflies, lotus flowers, the moon, or a key. A knife or dagger is worth the mention because it can represent cutting and clearing things that no longer serve you out of your life.

Crystals are lovely for this activity and I recommend you try the ones you feel intuitively attracted to. Even if it means trying a crystal without knowing what all of its properties are first. Wear or carry it with you and try to notice any shifts in your energetic field.

Charms are great because they jingle which can act as a on the go cleansing defense system. Not only are they spiritually impactful but they’re enchanting pieces of jewelry!

There is no right or wrong way to go about seeking or creating devotional or spiritually significant jewelry. Some of us need those daily reminders that we are connected to something much bigger than ourselves. We need to remember how deep our roots extend in order to feel grounded.

When you find this item, cherish it and ain’t forget to work with it as a spiritual ally with its out properties and energetic frequency, especially when dealing with crystals!

How do I charge my jewelry?

  1. Leave it on your alter right when you get home. Could be left on a herbal mix, crystal or window.
  2. Gather items associated with the energy you want the jewelry to harness. Could use pictures, statues, music, textures, oils, perfumes etc.
  3. Consecrate your items with oils and spiritual colognes on a regular basis. Simple way, bring oil into your hands, rubbing them together and praying / chanting. Hold the objects in between palms and pray / chant again.
